It was supposed to be a celebration for Milan Hejduk. But nobody told Jamie Benn that.
Behind a two-goal effort from Benn, Dallas (4-5-1) defeated Colorado 3-2 Monday at the Pepsi Center.
Benn scored early in the first period and late in the second to seal the victory. They were his first goals since signing his contract last week.
Hejduk, who received a silver stick from Joe Sakic prior to puck drop, scored his first goal on the season. He became the first player in Avalanche (4-5-0) history to play 1,000 games in burgundy and steel blue.
Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau continued his hot start, netting his seventh goal. It came on the power play after a Stephane Robidas penalty.
Captain Brendan Morrow scored the other Stars goal. Goalie Kari Lehtonen made 23 saves in the win.
Colorado will look to rebound Wednesday against Ryan Getzlaf and the Anaheim Ducks.Tags: Colorado, Colorado Avalanche, Hockey, Milan Hejduk, NHL, Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau
